Jumper Cables

One of the most common problems that most automobile drivers come across is dead batteries and flat tires. While most of the people learn to deal with these two situations only in case of an emergency it is better to learn about them in advance if one gets stuck in a condition which requires immediate action. As such the jumper cables are an important part in any car to deal with an emergency. Jumper cables are used to connect a dead battery and a working battery from another car. Though this problem mostly arises in the cold weather but it can hit you any time of the year.

Jumper cables come in varying lengths and one can choose from the wide variety. There are many manufacturers who often have a wide choice of jumper cables at online stores which make it easy for you to get this handy necessity right from your home. Jumper cables are heavy gauge wires which have been insulated and have alligator clips on both ends. The alternator in a car is responsible for all its electrical requirements including that of charging the car battery. But sometimes due to low battery the car may not start at all. The jumper cables will help in jump starting the car by providing electrical power from second battery on to the dead battery. Jumper cables need to be connected properly for the uncharged battery to become charged.

The positive terminals of the battery should be connected to the positive clamps of the jumper cables which are usually red in color and are marked by a (+) sign. The negative clamps which are black in color and are marked by a minus sign should be connected to grounded engine block area. For the best connection the clamps of the cables should be securely fitted at the battery posts of the cars. When the cables have been properly connected starting the car with a charged battery will help transfer electrical charge to the car with a dead battery. This connection will trigger a chemical process which will help in the recharging process. After the battery has been charged and the cars start then it is important to remove the jumper cables in a reverse order. Jumper cables are relatively inexpensive and they can save any driver from having to wait for a tow truck. These cables should be essentially carried in all cars.

A portable jump starter would be still better as it completely eliminates the need to wait for another car to start your car. With a portable battery and jumper cables attached to it this would be the thing that will save you in any condition. Cars are machines that may break down in the weirdest of situations. It is better to learn how to attach the jumper cables correctly so that there are no sparks and also the car battery gets charged for you to move on. Jumper cables can surely help you get your car moving if it is a battery problem but to be on safer side you should stop at the nearest garage once you jump start your car.
